First Photoshoot Experience

Hi dolls! I was asked earlier this week to do makeup for a local photoshoot. After speaking with the photographer about his vision for the shoot I agreed to do it. I'm so happy I did because it was so much fun! The photographer wanted something that was a little out of the ordinary, kind of futuristic, but still glamorous. The photoshoot was taking place at the nicest local hotel which is about 150 years old and has a very old-Hollywood glam look to it. It's very ornate, and if you've ever seen the movie Leatherheads starring George Clooney and Renee Zellweger you have seen the hotel, as a portion of the movie was filmed in it. I decided the best route to go would be to do a makeup lace eye-mask with an old-Hollywood style cat eye and wine colored lipstick. I took a risk by doing the lace mask because I had never actually done one. I practiced a couple of times on my arm before going to the shoot Friday evening and it turned out well so I decided to go ahead and try it on the model. I figured "What's the worst that could happen? If it looks bad, it's just makeup and can easily be fixed." Let me tell you I am so glad I took the risk to do the lace mask! It turned out awesome! It was avant garde enough without being over-the-top and was still very glamorous. Both the photographer and model were very happy with the way it turned out and it photographed beautifully! The photographer will be sending me the photos from the shoot to add to my portfolio so I will definitely post them as soon as I receive. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! :)

Booked for two fashion shows!

Hi dolls! I'm bursting with excitement right now!! I just found out that I will be working as MUA on two upcoming fashion shows! The first is in a couple of weeks. I'm definitely nervous since it will be my first time working on a fashion show, but I have faith that I will do great. The first show is requesting a strong but subtle eye and lip, so I have some research to do but they are allowing artistic interpretation of what a strong but subtle look is. They're both "trade for" jobs but I will be able to add the photos to my portfolio :) If you guys have any ideas please feel free to comment.

Feeling confident and Robyn Lawley is my new role-model!

Hi dolls! I wanted to talk about something that everyone can relate to; having self-confidence. I will be the first to admit that without makeup and nice clothes I don't feel confident. Mainly because of some imperfections in my skin and a negative body image. I grew up with my mother constantly putting herself down, saying that she was fat and unattractive. Naturally, the negative image she had of herself reflected onto me. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. When I was 12 years old I suffered from anorexia. When I was at my smallest I was 5'2" and barely weighed over 100 lbs. I have a medium bone structure with wide hips so naturally, I looked like a walking skeleton. Unfortunately, people were not honest with me and told me I looked "great". In reality, I looked horrible. It wasn't until my family finally sat me down told me just how sick I looked that I woke up. Since then I have battled with keeping my weight under control. About a year after I got married I had gained over 30 lbs. Last January I made a lifestyle change to lose the weight. I can honestly say that since I made the change I have lost the 30 lbs and went from a size 14 to a size 8. Even after losing the 30 lbs and being 4 sizes smaller I still struggle with my body image each day. I still struggle with the desire to starve myself at times. However, I read an article earlier about an Australian lingerie model who is 6'2" and a size 16. Her name is Robyn Lawley and she recently became the campaign model for a UK lingerie line. She's absolutely beautiful and looks very healthy. Obviously at 6'2" a size 16 looks much different than if she was 5'2" but she still looks healthy and curvaceous. I think she has become my new role model. I sincerely hope that the media will begin to see that a woman who is healthy and curvy is much more beautiful than a an anorexic walking skeleton. Part of my goal as a makeup artist is to make women feel confident through showing them proper makeup application techniques but we as women also need to learn to embrace our bodies for what they are. Every woman, no matter the size, shape, or weight is beautiful. Confidence and a smile is the most attractive accessory a woman can wear!
